Worried by the continuous decline in students’ commitment to studying and aiming at excellence, a non-governmental organisation, Academic Excellence Initiative (AEI) Mushin Zone has urged students to have a rethink and take their studies serious.

Speaking at the final stage of its annual quiz competition, the Project Coordinator of the Zone, Mr Taiwo Adekomaiya who was represented by the Project Officer of Oshodi Unit of the zone on the occasion, Prince Olatunji Ashimi said students should begin to aim high at success in their academic pursuit.

Giving reasons for the initiative’s annual quiz competition, Mr Adekomaiya said, it is a step towards re-energising students towards reading and aiming for excellence in all their endeavours.

“We have observed with keen interest the decline in students reading culture, this worried us a lot that is why we came up with the idea of the quiz competition to rejig students thinking towards studying,” he said.

Mr Adekomaiya advised students to cultivate reading culture and aim high in their academic pursuits.

“We therefore urge our young ones to take seriously their education pursuit, they should cultivate reading habit and always aim for excellence,” he said.

The competition which was keenly contested among nine schools at the final level was won by Bolade Senior Grammar School, while Ansarudeen Comprehensive High School came second and Ejigbo Senior High School third.

Speaking on their success, one of the participants from Bolade Senior Grammar School, Michael Adebayo said they were over joyed for winning the competition.

“When we left our school, our aim was to come first, thank God we achieved our aim, truly it wasn’t easy for us, we are very happy for this feat. We equally appreciate the organisers of this quiz competition,” he said.
