Lagos: Outstanding Scholars Emerge At AEI Competition
Academic Excellence Initiative (AEI) Award/Scholars’ Day has become a household name in the Nigerian educational sector.
The NGO has been championing the cause of educational advancement in Nigeria.
AEI, arguably the most outstanding educational NGO in Nigeria, has honoured the immediate past head of Nigeria national office of WAEC, Mr. Olutise Isaac Adenipekun; Alhaji Lateef Jakande, a former Governor of Lagos State; sports legend, Chief Segun Odegbami among others.
Students of schools in Lagos State have been major beneficiaries of AEI Programmes.
The most outstanding students in the first edition of the AEI Scholars’ Day, Nofisah Ahmad and Geoffrey Odion of Tomia Comprehensive High School scored 336 and 275 respectively in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2017, and today they’re making First-Class in Accounting and Electrical Engineering at the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG) and University of Benin (UNIBEN) accordingly.
The last edition produced the likes of Abdullah Muhammad (6As, 1B and 1C in WAEC) and Festus Joshua (1A, 5Bs and 2Cs in WAEC) of Dairy Farm with 341 in JAMB; Sholana Taiwo (7As and 2Bs in WAEC) and Mojisola AbdulAziz (3As and 6Bs) of Vetland Senior Grammar school with 340 and 309 respectively in JAMB.
As a mark of honour for excellence, twenty (20), out of eighty-one (81) schools have keenly contested for this year’s academic awards. The event, on Wednesday 27th January, 2021, was the grandfinale for AEI Championship Cup at LUFEM CBT Centre, Agege.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed from Prince Adesegun Ogungbayi, the Project Coordinator of AEI that the Scholars’ Day overall winner shall receive N250,000 and AEI Academic Championship Cup, while the 1st runner-up shall receive N150,000.00 and the 2nd runner-up is entitled to N100,000 and Certificate of Excellence performance and participation.
“We gave fourty (40) out of two hundred and forty-three (243) Scholars championship packages and Certificate of Excellence performance as AEI champion and AEI officials that will coordinate 2022 Award/Scholars Day.
“These young ones were named ’40 National Scholars of AEI’,” Ogungbayi stated.
“To crown it all, the most outstanding state in the history of Academic Excellence Initiative, AEI, shall be honoured on Award/Prize Giving-day on Saturday, 30th January, 2021. And that is Lagos State.
“All Scholars and schools are expected to join us online to witness the award ceremony.
“We shall be honouring the State of Excellence through the Award of Excellence that has been bestowed upon the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo; the Honourable Commissioner for Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Fahm, and Tutor General and Permanent Secretary of Lagos Education District 1, Bar. ( Mrs) Margaret Titilayo Sholarin.
“Other Awardees include: Dr. Olubayo Adekanbi, the Chief Transformation Officer MTN Nigeria; Professor (Engr) Abiodun Musa Aibinu, HOD of Mechatronics Engineering Federal University of Technology Minna; Mrs. Tope Mark Odigie, an On-Air Personality, among others.
“By your rise to this status, you have won mentorship scheme of Academic Excellence Initiative, AEI, and won the title of Academic Officer of AEI and shall be programmed to make 9As in WAEC and to score between 300 and 350 out of 400 total JAMB score.
“By this, First Class Academic status and career status leading you to PhD holders before the age of 27 can be achieved.” Ogungbayi expressed optimism.
